Masa of Echo Park: Where I Found a Piece of Chicago in Los Angeles

HIIII

Guys. This weekend something amazing happened. Something that hasn’t happened since I left Chicago…I. ate. deep. dish. pizza.

I know most of you could CARE LESS, but this Chicago gal has missed her pizza! Don’t get me wrong, I totally respect the healthy lifestyle out here in LA and all the trendy vegan places and blah blah blah. But this little gem of a place that serves Chicago styled pizza has won my heart. It is so cozy and reminded me of a place that my family and I would go to back home!

If you’re ever in the area, I highly suggest you check out Masa of Echo Park. The owners of the restaurant are from Chicago so it’s the real deal! But WARNING: it takes a long time to get the food/get seated!

I went with my boyfriend on a Saturday night. We were told that the wait to get a table would take 35 mins – an hour, and if we were going to order deep dish, it would take another 45 minutes to make. So we called to place a take out order an hour before we would arrive at the restaurant during rush hour; however, they said we should call back when we were closer to the restaurant, or else our pizza would just be sitting in the kitchen. We did what they suggested and still ended up waiting another 40 minutes for our pizza once we arrived was a bit frustrating :/

(In the meantime we walked around and took these super modelesque photos. Ha Ha.)

I will say though, the wait was worth it. It may not have been as good as Lou Malnatis back home, but still worth it. We grabbed our pizza box and headed over to Echo Park Lake to eat by the water. It was so memorable!

After we finished, we wanted desert. We went to an “Instagram famous” desert/boba place in Chinatown called Snow Monster and man, was it popping! We ordered the sunset lemonade drink and ate outside in the little town square and just people watched.

The drinks at Snow Monster are so cool! They put them in light-bulb-looking bottles. Next time I go there, I want to order a boba drink covered in cotton candy. It looked quite delicious.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a great weekend! Talk soon loves x
